High on Highland Meadows

th_hole1.jpgThe crappy weather we've been having cleared up long enough to get in a round of golf at the new Highland Meadows course in Windsor. This is a links style layout reminded me quite a bit of Ute Creek in Longmont. I think the terrain here makes it a littler nicer though. Much more variety with the arroyos to avoid, plus no houses, yet.

The greens are big and undulating, with many multi-tiered. Put the ball in the wrong spot and you'll be lucky to avoid a three-putt. I liked the variety of the hole distances. From the blue tees, there are short par-4s: 325, 340, 349; and there are long par-4s: 442, 441, 436. On many of the holes there are options to play safe but have a long approach shot, or be aggressive and clear a bunker/arroyo but have a short approach.

A couple things need to be addressed yet:

  • distances: there is only one 150-yard marker per hole. Nothing else unless your using a cart with the GPS. They need to either mark the sprinklers or put in multiple markers every 50 yards (on both sides of the fairway).
  • pin positions: there is no clue as to where the pin positions are on the green except visually. No colored flags, pin position numbers, etc.

I'm really excited about having such a nice course nearby to include in our standard rotation. I can't wait to play it again, now that I know how it's laid out and where I can play my shots.

Weekend by the Bay

Memorial Day weekend was "guys weekend out" for my friend Gary & I as we hit San Francisco for a Rockies away series. The worst thing that happened the whole trip was they lost all the games with the Giants. Everything else was fantastic.
